The sound heard here was synthesized on a Yamaha Tyros2 keyboard. I played three notes on a square wave sound, two for the actual sound, and one for a high harmonic. Then, I used scale tuning to make it sound as close to a perfect minor third as possible. Next, I applied some distortion, which gives this it's realistic sound. I also used a volume pedal for the rotation, and I played the sound through a set of speakers for a more realistic sound. I did the blower on a separate track. The wind-up and wind-down were done using the pitch bend wheel. Please comment and rate.

after listening to this recording...now how can I tell which one is the real mecahnical siren motor and which one is the synthesied computer generated sound?

What do you call a the sound of the Thunderbolt Siren?Minor third Square Wave Tone or What?

most impressive, Thunderbolt1000T....now we all know that the sound we all love dosent have to be done by a magnesium motor with 2 row of ports that are 7 1/12 foots (inches) in diameter spinning rapidly at a couple thousand RPMs. The beautiful sound is also done by hitting 3 keys on a eletric keyboard using square wave sound and then distorting the sound at the same time.So the sound i love from the Thunderbolt Dual Sound Siren is some sort of a square wave sound..not a sine wave sound.

It would probably sound better on a Siratone, since they do better with lower frequencies. It would be cool if Federal at least came out with an electronic version of the TBolt. I could probably make the tones for them. Federal needs to get a grip! The stuff they're coming out with today is not what it used to be. Their Modulators are too high pitched, and their 2001-130's are junk.

If they played this through an electronic siren like a whelen or siratone, it would sound cool!

Thanks! I don't make siren tones for a living, but I do play my keyboard in a local band. We're called Rock Station, and we've got three videos on YouTube. Just type "rock station band louisville" without the quotes in the search box, and you should find the videos.

you have real talent with this thing. i'm sure someone's looking for somebody like you to do this for a living (if you don't already).
